October 30, 2020 | Women's Tennis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis team opened the June Stewart Invitational winning five singles matches.
"We did a good job executing specific tactics that we have been working on in practice the last couple of weeks," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "That led to us winning a lot of singles matches today."
In doubles play, the Lady Vols dropped three matches to Vanderbilt but would bounce back with five-of-seven singles wins over Kentucky.
Senior Tenika McGiffin earned a straight-set win over Kentucky's Anastasia Tkachenko 6-1, 6-1 to open singles play against the Wildcats.
Freshman Esther Adeshina earned the Lady Vols' second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Kentucky's Fiona Arrese. Adeshina rides a career-long three-match singles winning streak going into day two of the June Stewart Invitational.
