Dominant Singles Play Leads Vols Through Day Two of Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Victories in six-of-eight singles matches against Georgia, propelled the Tennessee men's tennis team to an impressive day two at the Gamecock Fall Invitational.
In the doubles session, the two programs split the four matches, with the Bulldogs grabbing each of their wins in tiebreaks.
Doubles action for the Vols, was highlighted by the bounce back performance of graduate student Giles Hussey and freshman Johannus Monday, who easily dispatched of UGA's duo of Blake Croyder and Philip Henning, 8-5.
In singles play, graduate student and newcomer Joel Gamerov, was the first one off the court after dominating Niklas von Hellens in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. The win was Gamerov's first for the Orange & White.
Quickly following him was Hussey who breezed past the Bulldogs Erik Grevelius, 6-1, 6-4, to finish the afternoon undefeated.
Fifth-year senior Luca Wiedenmann, rebounded from his loss on Friday to take down Baptiste Anselmo, 7-5, 6-4. Wiedenmann's win was the 84th singles victory of his career, moving him into a tie for 20th in program history for career singles wins.
The fourth Vol to claim a win in straight sets was junior Pat Harper who defeated Georgia's Blake Croyder 6-2, 7-5.
Senior captain, Adam Walton earned his first win of the Fall when he battled through an up-and-down affair to topple Tyler Zink in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
To close the afternoon, freshman Josh Raab won the match of the day, coming from behind after dropping the opening set to grab his second collegiate win over Britton Johnston, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4).
Tennessee closes the Gamecock Invitational when it takes on Kentucky tomorrow morning. Doubles matches are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET.
