KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee soccer team will embark on its final road trip of the fall semester this week, traveling to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
Â
Friday's match will be streamed online via SEC Network+, while live stats will be provided by StatBroadcast. Fans can follow @Vol_Soccer on Twitter for live updates.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: The Vols (2-3-1) were unable to contain the SEC's top scoring offense last Friday night, as UT fell 3-1 to No. 9 Texas A&M at Regal Soccer Stadium. Redshirt senior forward Erin Gilroy gave UT some life late in the second half with her second goal of the 2020-21 campaign, but the Aggies' 3-0 lead proved insurmountable.
Â
IN THE HUNT: With two regular-season matches remaining this fall, Tennessee is one of two teams alive in the race for an SEC East division title. If the Vols record back-to-back wins over Florida and South Carolina, they would finish with 13 points in divisional play and surpass the Gamecocks on the table as SEC East champions.
Â
CONFERENCE LEADERS: Six weeks into the season, a couple of young Vols find themselves at the top of the SEC leaderboard in two statistical categories.
Â
Redshirt freshman forward Jaida Thomas has scored two game-winning goals this fall, which ties with five other players for most in the SEC.
Â
Sophomore midfielder Claudia Dipasupil leads the conference with three assists this fall. Prior to UT's 2-1 win over Missouri on October 9, she had yet to record an assist in her collegiate career.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Gators own an 18-10-3 record in the all-time series, including a 10-3 mark in Gainesville.
Â
The Vols have won the last two contests, picking up a 1-0 victory in Knoxville last fall and 2-0 win at Florida in 2018. A win on Friday would mark Tennessee's third in a row over the Gators, tying the longest streak for the Vols in series history.
Â
SCOUTING FLORIDA: The Gators (1-3-1) enter Friday's match on a three-game losing skid, dropping matches to Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and South Carolina. Florida's seven goals on the season have each been scored by a different player, as senior forward Madison Alexander paces the squad with four points (one goal, two assists).
Â
UP NEXT: The Vols will return to Knoxville for the fall finale against league-leading South Carolina on Friday, November 6. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Regal Soccer Stadium.
