Vols Finish Tied for Fourth at Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate
October 27, 2020 | Men's Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Tennessee men's golf team closed out its second fall tournament of the year, tying for fourth place in a field composed of all 14 SEC schools at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate.
Â
The Vols finished the three-round event 24-under par with three top-25 finishers. Dating to the beginning of last season, it marks Tennessee's sixth top-four finish as a team.
"It was a very solid week for us," head coach Brennan Webb said. "It's a great indication of the depth of our team that we didn't have anyone finish inside the top 15 and we were still able to finish fourth.
Â
"That type of depth will serve us well as the season progresses."
Â
For the fourth consecutive tournament dating to last season, redshirt freshman Bryce Lewis finished inside the top-20, tying for 18th place after carding a 6-under 207. During Tuesday's final round, Lewis recorded his second straight round in the 60s with a 2-under 69.
Â
All six of Lewis' rounds so far this fall have been par or better.
Â
Spencer Cross and Rhys Nevin gave Tennessee its other two top-25 finishes, tying for 24th place. Cross and Nevin each recorded three-round totals of 5-under 208, with rounds of 70 and 67 on Tuesday, respectively.
Â
Nevin finished the tournament with rounds of 66 and 67 to his credit – which stand as two of his five lowest rounds as a Vol. The top-25 finish also marked the 20th of Nevin's Tennessee career – a mark that leads the team.
Â
Brayden Garrison finished tied for 35th place, carding a three-round total of 2-under 211. Garrison recorded his second straight round under par on Tuesday, shooting a 70 to follow up his 67 on Monday.
Â
Tying for 53rd place was Hunter Wolcott, who shot 2-over 215 for the week. Two of Wolcott's three rounds for the week counted in Tennessee's team score.
Â
Tennessee is back in action in just under two weeks on Nov. 9 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, hosted by Alabama in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, at the Old Overton Club.
