COLUMBIA, S.C. – After a tough start in doubles action, victories in five-of-eight singles contests highlighted day one of the Gamecock Fall Invitational for the Tennessee men's tennis team.

The tandem of senior Adam Walton and junior Pat Harper grabbed the lone victory for the Vols in the morning's doubles session, battling to an 8-6 triumph over South Carolina's Daniel Rodrigues and Connor Thomson.

Despite falling in their respective matches, the Tennessee duos of graduate student Giles Hussey and freshman Johannus Monday and graduate student Joel Gamerov and freshman Josh Raab showed multiple positive moments in tough 8-7 decisions.

In singles action, Monday and Raab each earned their first collegiate wins, with both coming in straight sets.

Monday easily dispatched of South Carolina's Phillip Jordan, 6-1, 6-3, while Raab followed with an effortless 6-2, 6-4 victory over the Gamecock's Carter Morgan.

After winning a tough first set tie break (7-6(4)), Hussey rolled to a 6-4 second-set win over Thomas Brown to claim his 18th career singles win as a member of the Orange & White.

Harper was the lone Vol to finish the morning undefeated when he pushed past Carolina's Coby Samuel in come-from-behind fashion, 0-6, 7-6, 6-2.

Junior Martim Prata finished the day for the Vols, claiming a victory in a back-and-forth affair with SC's Raphael Lambling, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

UT will take the courts again tomorrow afternoon, with doubles and singles matches against Georgia set to begin at 1:30 p.m. ET.
