TRACK CENTRAL: Virginia Tech Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee track & field program is set to compete in its first two-day meet of the 2020 indoor season this weekend, as the Vols travel to Blacksburg, Virginia, for the Virginia Tech Invitational. The meet is set for Friday and Saturday, January 17-18 at the Rector Field House.

The Virginia Tech Invitational will begin Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. with four events (women's 60m hurdles prelims, men's triple jump, women's triple and men's weight throw), and conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay Saturday at 3:20 p.m. A total of 70 Tennessee athletes are entered in the meet, going up against competition from 11 other NCAA Division I programs: Charlotte, Duke, Elon, Howard, Liberty, North Carolina, Pitt, VCU, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee track & field opened the 2020 indoor season last weekend with a pair of dual meets at Indiana. The Lady Vols put together a wire-to-wire 71-51 victory over the Hoosiers, while the No. 21 Vols narrowly fell to the No. 5 Hoosiers 64-58 on the men's side.

Tennessee picked up 15 event victories on the afternoon to go along with two school records, four meet records and seven top-10 marks in program history. Notable performances included a school record in the shot put for Joseph Maxwell (19.46m / 63-10.25), an NCAA-leading mark in the high jump for Darryl Sullivan (2.25m / 7-4.5) and the all-time freshman record in the women's weight throw for Chandler Hayden (19.37m / 63-6.75).

UP NEXT: Tennessee will take a two-week break from competition before heading the Lubbock, Texas for the Texas Tech Invitational. The three day meet will run Thursday, January 30 through Saturday, February 1 at the Sports Performance Center.
