#20 Vols Extend Home Winning Streak To Nine, Top Bearcats 3-1

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 20 Tennessee secured its third win in a row and ninth-straight at home Sunday afternoon, as the Vols dispatched Cincinnati 3-1 at Regal Soccer Stadium. Wrenne French, Sonia Ouchene Salón and Isabella Cook accounted for scores in the victory in front of a season-high crowd of 1,158.

French found the opener with her first career goal in the fifth minute, heading a ball into the back of the net off a cross from senior midfielder Katie Cousins. Senior forward MA Vignola was also credited with an assist on the play as she found Cousins just in front of the SEC logo following a corner kick.

"It was so exciting," French said following the win. "Katie [Cousins] played a great ball in to me. It's usually the offensive player's job to score the goals, so I was really happy to give one back today."

Tennessee (5-1) went into the halftime locker room with a 10-2 edge in shot attempts and a 6-0 lead in shots on goal. The Vols also held possession for 64 percent of the opening frame.

UT took a 2-0 lead right out of the half as Ouchene Salón tallied the first goal of her young collegiate career in the 48^th minute. The freshman from Valencia, Paterna, Spain, scored off a deflection from the Bearcat keeper after Vignola fired a shot on goal inside the six-yard box.

Cook made it 3-0 Tennessee in the 62^nd minute, scoring for the second time in three matches for the Big Orange. The Elmhurst, Ill., native received a cross from Ouchene Salón and punched it in from eight yards out. Cousins picked up her second assist of the match after leading Ouchene Salón into the lower right corner of the pitch.

Cincinnati (1-5) broke up the shutout in the 83^rd minute as Ying Zhan fired a rocket into the right corner of the net from the top of the 18. The score was double assisted by Julia Abbott and Camryn Hartman.

Shots were 17-9 in favor of the Vols, while UT held a 10-4 edge in shots on goal Sunday afternoon. Tennessee won the possession battle for the sixth-consecutive outing, holding the ball for 62 percent of the contest.

UP NEXT: Tennessee will take a week off between games before traveling to Amherst, Mass. to face the UMass Minutewomen. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
