Nevin Leads Vols in Round One of Carpet Capital

The senior from Cheshire, England sits inside of the top 25 after the opening round of the tournament
DALTON, Ga. – In the opening round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, No. 16/18 University of Tennessee men's golf team was led by senior Rhys Nevin.
The Cheshire, England native sits inside of the top 25 after 18 holes of play at The Farm Golf Club. Nevin opened up the season with a round of 74 (+2) which included three birdies. He started the day with a birdie on the first hole and remained even at the turn after another birdie on the par-5 ninth.

Last season, Nevin placed inside of the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. Going into Saturday he sits just two strokes out from the being tied for seventh, individually.

Sitting just two strokes back of Nevin are juniors Hunter Wolcott and Spencer Cross. They both fired rounds of 76 (+4) on Friday with Cross leading the team with five birdies in his round.

The Sevierville, Tenn. native was under par on the back nine, sinking three of his five birdies after the turn. Heading into the final two holes, Cross was back to 2-under-par for his round before bogeys on No. 17 and No. 18.

Wolcott tied for a team-high with 11 pars and shot a 38 (+2) on both the front and back nine in the opening round.

Tennessee (+16), who sits in 12th on the team leaderboard, will tee off the second round tomorrow at 9:24 a.m. ET off No. 10. The Vols will be paired with ETSU (+14) and Florida (+15) who are 10th and 11th, respectively.
