Vols Come Up Short At Auburn, 1-0

AUBURN, Ala. -- Despite a 12-7 advantage in shot attempts, Tennessee suffered its second-straight loss Thursday night as the Vols fell 1-0 at Auburn. Unable to overcome the halftime deficit, UT dropped to 6-3-1 on the season and 0-2 in SEC play.

Freshman forward Kori Locksley tallied the difference maker with the first goal of her career, giving Auburn (5-3-2, 2-0 SEC) a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute. The rookie took a service from the midfield and went on a run to the corner of the 18-yard box, firing a shot into the upper right corner of the netting beyond the outstretched arms of Lindsey Romig.

Shots were even at four apiece during the opening 45 minutes, as Auburn posted a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Tennessee held the advantage in corner kicks 3-1 and possessed the ball for 59 percent of the first half.

The Vols saw a handful of close chances at an equalizer in the second half, firing eight shots compared to three for the Tigers over the final 45 minutes. MA Vignola and Sonia Ouchene Salón each recorded shots on goal in the last 120 seconds of the match, while headers from Michelle Alozie (80') and Mackenzie George (68') were placed inches wide of the post.

Tennessee dominated the battle for possession with a season-high 63-37 lead over the Tigers for the match. In addition to a 12-7 advantage in shot attempts (5-4 shots on goal), the Vols held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
