Â
LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee (2-1) suffered its first setback of the season Thursday night with a narrow 1-0 loss at Rutgers. The Vols held possession for 58 percent of the match but were outshot 15-7 on the night. After a scoreless first half, Scarlet Knight senior forward Brittany LaPlant scored the game-winner in the 48th minute from eight yards out.
Â
BOUNCE BACK: Since 2016, Brian Pensky's Vols have shown the ability to respond well following a loss. Tennessee owns a 12-3-1 (.781) record coming off a loss over the past three seasons and has not suffered back-to-back losses since Oct. 22, 2017.
Â
UNCHARTED TERRITORY: Sunday's match will mark Tennessee's first time competing in the state of New York. It will also be the first time the Vols have faced an opponent from the Ivy League.
Â
SCOUTING COLUMBIA: The Lions (0-0-1) opened their season Friday night with a 2-2 draw at in-state foe Colgate. Columbia saw goals from freshman forward Shira Cohen and senior defender Amalya Johnson.
Â
Columbia is coming off an 8-7-1 (4-3 Ivy League) season in 2018, recording the program's third-straight winning season. The Lions return eight starters from last year, including three All-Ivy League performers in Johnson, Gracie Wall and Jessica Schildkraut. Columbia also brings back 73 percent of its scoring from a season ago.
Â
UP NEXT: Tennessee returns to Regal Soccer Stadium Thursday, Sept. 5 to host Southeastern Louisiana. Kickoff between the Vols and Lions is set for 7 p.m.
