TRACK & FIELD CENTRAL: NCAA National Championships

AUSTIN, Texas -- 16 Tennessee track & field athletes have traveled to Austin, Texas to represent the Big Orange at the NCAA National Championships, hosted by the University of Texas at the Mike A. Myers Stadium from Wednesday through Saturday.

UT opens the national meet Wednesday afternoon with sophomore school-record holder Georgios Korakidis competing in the men's hammer throw at 2 p.m. CT. The championships will conclude Saturday night with the women's 4x400m relay finals at approximately 7:51 p.m.

DOUBLE DOSAGE: Tennessee senior captains Stamatia Scarvelis (hammer, discus) and Mustaqeem Williams (100m, 200m) are part of an elite group of athletes that qualified for the national championships in more than one event. Scarvelis (Santa Barbara, Calif.) is one of four female athletes that will compete in both the hammer and discus throws, while Williams (Woodbridge, Va.) is one of 11 to qualify in both the men's 100m and 200m dashes.

THREE YEARS RUNNING: Senior distance standout Zach Long will make his third consecutive appearance in the men's 5,000m national championship on Friday night. The Rutledge, Tenn. native placed 12th for second team All-America honors as a sophomore in 2017 and will look to add to his long list of accolades this weekend.

GUESS WHO'S BACK: In addition to Long, Scarvelis and Williams, Tennessee's national championship travel party features a few repeat qualifiers in Alexis Duncan (100m hurdles) as well as 4x400m relay runners Lenysse Dyer and Layla White. Duncan makes her second-straight appearance at the meet, while Dyer and White will run the 4x400m at nationals for the third time in their respective careers.

NATIONALS NEWBIES: The Vols will have eight student athletes making their outdoor national championships debuts, headlined by the senior-freshman triple jump tandem of LaChyna Roe and Alonie Sutton. Sophomore throwers Georgios Korakidis (hammer) and Joseph Maxwell (shot put) will also compete in their first collegiate national meet, while Hannah Jefcoat (pole vault), Domonique Turner (100m hurdles), Brooklynn Broadwater (4x400m) and Martina Weil (4x400m) will represent the Lady Vols on the national stage for the first time. Alternates Saqukine Cameron and Gabriella Cantrell also made the trip to nationals for the first time in their careers.

UP NEXT: The end of the national championships will mark the end of the collegiate season for the Tennessee track & field program. The Vols will send a handful of athletes to the U.S. Junior and Senior Championships, scheduled for later this month.
