June 08, 2019 | Track & Field
AUSTIN, Texas -- Tennessee senior captains Mustaqeem Williams and Zach Long wrapped up their four-year collegiate careers Friday night as the Big Orange concluded men's competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Williams locked up the 10th All-America honor of his career in the men's 200m final, while Long was tabbed with honorable mention accolades in the men's 5,000m.
Â
Heavy favorite Texas Tech took home the national team title on the men's side with 60 points, followed by Florida (50) and Houston (40) to round out the top-three. The Vols came away with one point as Williams placed eighth in the 200m dash.
Â
WILLIAMS JOINS ELITE GROUP: Securing the 10th All-America citation of his career, Williams became the eighth male athlete in Tennessee history to garner double-digit All-America acclaim. The Woodbridge, Va. native took eighth place in the men's 200m dash final with a time of 20.56 on Friday night, claiming First Team honors in the outdoor 200m for the second-consecutive season.
Â
Williams' 10 All-America citations are the most since Christian Coleman claimed 12 during his career from 2014-17.
Â
LONG'S CAREER COMES TO CLOSE: Competing in his third-straight men's 5,000m national championship, Long finished his career with a 21st-place outing Friday in Austin. The senior wraps up his stellar career as a three-time All-SEC performer as well as holding all-time program records in the indoor 3,000m and outdoor 5,000m.
Â
UP NEXT: The Big Orange national championship contingent will wrap up the meet Saturday with the women's discus and triple jump competitions. Stamatia Scarvelis will represent UT in the discus throw at approximately 5:05 p.m. CT, while LaChyna Roe and Alonie Sutton make their outdoor national debuts in the triple jump at 5:40.
