Storm Abruptly Ends Tennessee Challenge; Vols Wrap Regular Season

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Due to the forecast of inclement weather in the Knoxville area, Saturday's home meet - the Tennessee Challenge - was canceled mid-afternoon at Tom Black Track. This marks the end of regular season for the Vols, who turn their attention to the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships next week in Fayetteville, Ark.
SENIORS TAB SEASON-BESTS: Tennessee senior Savannah Marlow opened the Tennessee Challenge for UT in the women's hammer throw, logging a season-best heave of 55.85m (183-3) on her second attempt of the morning. The mark placed second at the meet ranks 12th in the SEC this season.
Oak Ridge native Wesley Robinson won his final race at Tom Black Track, taking first place in the men's 3,000m steeplechase with a season-best 9:14.11. The senior distance specialist recorded the No. 9 mark by an SEC athlete this season.
RELAY SECURES EASY W: The Lady Vol relay team of Alexis Duncan, Gabriella Cantrell, Lenysse Dyer and Domonique Turner cruised to a victory in the women's 4x100m relay, collectively clocking a time of 44.83 to edge the rest of the field by more than two seconds.
WEST TIES HISTORY: Currently redshirting the season, UT sophomore Jordan West competed unattached Saturday morning in the men's shot put competition. The Rahway, N.J. native tied his lifetime-best and school record mark of 19.79m (64-11.25) to take first place at the Tennessee Challenge.
LADY VOL SHOT PUTTERS LEAD WAY: Tennessee went 1-2 in the women's shot put as Tamia Crockett and Emily Meier had the top-two attempts prior to the weather delay/cancellation. Crockett threw a mark of 14.99m (49-2.25) for the win, while Meier recorded a season-best 13.71m (44-11.75) to finish second at the Tennessee Challenge.
OTHER TOP-5 FINISHES: The Tennessee track & field program accomplished three additional top-5 finishes during the shortened afternoon of competition.
UP NEXT: Tennessee begins postseason action next week as the Vols travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the 2019 SEC Outdoor Championships. The conference meet is slated for Thursday through Saturday, May 9-11 at the University of Arkansas' John McDonnell Field.
