Two Score, Two Advance For Tennessee on Day One of SEC Outdoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Tennessee sprinters Mustaqeem Williams and Brooklynn Broadwater each qualified for conference finals in their respective events, while hammer throw standouts Seth Whitener and Georgios Korakidis scored to highlight UT's performances Thursday at the SEC Outdoor Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonnell Field.
FINALS BOUND: Williams (Woodbridge, Va.) secured his spot in the men's 200m final automatically by winning Heat 1 of the prelims. The senior captain crossed the line with a time of 20.71 - just .01 seconds shy of his season-best - for the third-fastest time of the evening. Combining indoor and outdoor, Williams is set to compete in his fourth-consecutive SEC 200m final on Saturday at 7:25 p.m. CT.
Broadwater (Philadelphia, Pa.) advanced to her first career SEC final with a time of 59.66 in the 400m hurdles, placing seventh overall in the preliminary round. The Lady Vol sophomore will run for a conference title Saturday at approximately 7:15 p.m. CT.
HAMMER BROS. SCORE THREE: Tennessee's hammer throw tandem of Seth Whitener and Georgios Korakidis put the Vols on the board with three points, placing seventh and eighth at the conference meet respectively. Whitener heaved a season-best 67.09m (220-1) on his last throw, while Korakidis' best mark of 66.94m (219-7) came on his fifth attempt of the afternoon.
HEPTATHLON UPDATE: Lady Vol sophomore Kiara Rhodes represented UT in the women's heptathlon and currently sits 8th through four events with 3,095 points. See below for a breakdown of her performances thus far:
