May 11, 2019 | Track & Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Tennessee senior captain Stamatia Scarvelis was presented with the Commissioner's Trophy Saturday night following the completion of the 2019 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The award is designated for one male and female student-athlete that records the highest individual point total at the conference meet.
Â
Scarvelis (Santa Barbara, Calif.) finished her final SEC Championships with 23 points for the Lady Vols. The throwing standout earned 10 points with a victory in the hammer throw, eight points with a runner-up result in the discus and five points for her fourth-place outing in the shot put. She is the first female Tennessee athlete to earn the honors since distance specialist Chelsea Blaase took home the award in 2016.
Â
Scarvelis' 23 points contributed greatly to the Lady Vols' total of 45.5, which ranked ninth out of 14 in the conference.
Â
VOLS TAB NOTABLE POINT TOTAL: On the men's side, Tennessee finished seventh in the team standings with 68 points for the meet. It was the highest total for the Vols at the SEC Outdoor Championships since 2008, when UT scored 97.5 points for third place overall.
