May 11, 2019 | Softball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Junior third baseman Chelsea Seggern was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 3 Softball Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this week.Â
The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their contributions on and off the field. Seggern joins 10 other student-athletes from schools in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia on the District 3 First-Team.
The Thrall, Texas, native boasts a 3.87 GPA while majoring in Kinesiology. Tennessee's starter at the hot corner, Seggern ranks first on the team with 16 doubles while her 39 RBI and .614 slugging percentage are second-most on the team. She has scored a career-high 30 runs in 2019 while her .371 average through 47 games is also the best of her career.
As a First-team Academic All-District honoree, Seggern will automatically be placed on the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team (when selected) Academic All-America selections will be announced in June.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.
To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America distinction, nominees must have reached at least sophomore academic standing and have a 3.30 GPA or higher to go along with legitimate on-field contributions. Â
