Vols Hit the Road for a Top-25 Showdown

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 25th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team continues SEC play with a road match at No. 24 LSU on Thursday from the LSU Tennis Complex.
Tennessee (9-2, 0-1 SEC) fell to Georgia in its last time out, 4-2, will look to bounce back against the Tigers who enter the match 12-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. LSU split in the opening weekend of SEC play, losing to Alabama, 5-2, before coming back on Sunday to beat Auburn, 5-2.

LAST TIME OUT: The Vols fell to Georgia, 4-2, to open SEC play last week but fought with the Bulldogs throughout the match. Tennessee dropped the first three points to find itself in a 3-0 hole, but rallied to take singles points on Court One and Six. Four of the six singles matches went a full three sets.
MOVING ON UP: Timo Stodder made a big move up the ITA rankings after he defeated the then No. 5 singles player in the nation, Jan Zielinski of Georgia, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). Stodder jump from No. 113 to No. 56 with the triumph.
Adam Walton picked up a win over Gonzalo Morell of Middle Tennessee last week before going unfinished against Georgia's Emil Reinberg. With his performance last week, Walton moved up one spot in the polls and is now ranked No. 93 nationally.
Preston Touliatos and doubles partner Stodder returned to the polls at No. 36 after a pair of wins last week. The senior duo knocked off Middle Tennessee's Tom Moonen and Chris Edge, 6-2, and defeated Robert Loeb and Zielinski of Georgia, 6-2.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: LSU has won seven of its last eight matches going back to a February 1 victory over No. 17 Tulane. Shane Monroe is the 112th-ranked singles player in the nation and is the lone Tiger ranked in singles by the ITA. LSU only has one doubles pair ranked by the ITA in Rafael Wagner and Joey Thomas. The duo is No. 43 nationally.
SERIES HISTORY: The series dates back to 1965 and has been tightly contested as Tennessee owns a 30-28 advantage over LSU. The teams met last season in Knoxville with the Vols coming away victorious, 6-1.
