GOLF CENTRAL: The Hayt

Tennessee one of 10 top-50 teams in the field at Sawgrass County Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee men's golf team travels to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. for the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational.
The field features 15 teams with the Vols entering as one of three Southeastern Conference teams as No. 21 Alabama and No. 9 Auburn join them. The field also includes top-25 teams in No. 19 Clemson, No. 20 Liberty, No. 22 Louisville and No. 17 North Florida.
In total, 10 of the 15 teams come into the event ranked in the top 50 in the latest Golfstat rankings including Tennessee.
The Vols travel six players to the Hayt as sophomore Spencer Cross will play as an individual. This will be his second event of the spring after placing in the top 10 at the Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate.
Entering the lineup for the first time this spring is redshirt sophomore Tyler Johnson. He is coming off a 15th place finish as an individual at the Linger Longer Invitational two weeks ago in Georgia.
Johnson played in the lineup in all four events in the fall including two top-10 finishes. The Knoxville, Tenn. native counted in 11 of the 12 rounds (91.67 percent) which is tied for the best percentage on the team with junior Hunter Wolcott.
Wolcott's score has counted in 17 consecutive rounds with only the first round of the Carpet Capital not counting for the Vols team score.
Tomorrow's first round is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. (ET) as Tennessee tees off No. 1 at Sawgrass Country Club. The Vols will be paired with NC State and Clemson on the opening day of play.
The Vols' Lineup
Brayden Garrison
In six starts this season, Garrison has placed inside of the top 25 five times including a pair of top-25 finishes this spring. He tied for 21st at the Linger Longer Invitational earlier in March, bookending the week with rounds of par or better.
Hunter Wolcott
The Burns, Tenn., has two top-15 finishes in his last three starts including tying for 10th at the Southwestern Invitational earlier this spring. He also ranks second on the team with nine rounds of par or better this season.
Tyler Johnson
Johnson enters the lineup for the first tournament this spring after playing in the lineup in all four events this fall. The redshirt sophomore is coming off of the Linger Longer Invitational where he was the Vols top finisher tying for 15th as an individual.
Rhys Nevin
The junior will look for his first top 25 finish of the spring after having three in four tournament this fall. Nevin leads the team with three rounds in the 60s while ranking fourth in rounds of par or better with seven this season.
Nolan Ray
The redshirt junior comes into the weekend with three top 20 finishes in his last four tournaments. This includes a third place finish at the Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate and a tie for 20th at the Southwestern Invitational, this spring.
Vols' Individual
Spencer Cross
Cross will play in his second event of the spring after participating in the Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate in February. He finished tied for ninth in the event including going sub-par in the final two rounds.
