Lady Vols in Second After Round One of Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational

Tennessee just one shot back of defending national champions Arizona as four player sit in top 15
PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – After the first round of Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational, the University of Tennessee women's golf team sits just one shot off of the lead in second place.
The Lady Vols, who carded an opening round 287 (-1), have four players who are inside of the top 15 on the individual leaderboard. Tennessee is just one shot back of defending national champions Arizona, who came into the tournament ranked No. 10 in the latest GolfStat rankings.
Junior Micheala Williams continued her strong play coming off her first collegiate win at the Florida Gators Invitational. Through 18 holes, Williams is right back in contention for the individual lead.
She was nearly bogey-free in the opening round, carding a 69 (-3) with four birdies. Williams is tied for second and just one shot back of the lead entering Friday's round.
Senior Ariana Macioce, who has placed in the top 20 in the last six events, joins Williams in the top 10. Macioce helped the Lady Vols to the lead at the turn as she was 4-under and on top of the individual leaderboard through nine holes of play.
Macioce (E) enters the second round tied for ninth while leading the field with five birdies. Freshman Mikayla Bardwell, who is second in the field with 14 pars through one round, sits just one stroke back of Macioce and tied for 11th.
Also siting in 11th is sophomore Mariah Smith. Smith helped Tennessee close out their under-par round with three birdies over the final five holes of the round including a birdie on the par-5 18th.
Tennessee will be paired with Arizona (-2) and Idaho (+10) who sit in first and third, respectively. Tomorrow's second round will start at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
