KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 17th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team goes on the road this Saturday, Feb. 9, for a neutral-site match against Duke as part of the United States Tennis Association's College MatchDay series. The Vols and Blue Devils will square off at 6 p.m. ET at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
College MatchDay is one of the USTA's primary platforms to promote college tennis, creating a 'bowl-game atmosphere' inside the National Campus' 1,200-seat collegiate stadium. The Tennessee-Duke matchup will be nationally televised on the Tennis Channel.
LAST TIME OUT: The Vols (5-1) are coming off a doubleheader sweep against Wichita State (5-2) and The Citadel (7-0) this past Sunday.
TWO VOLS GO UNDEFEATED ON WEEKEND: Senior captain Preston Touliatos went undefeated against Wichita State and The Citadel last weekend, earning wins at No. 4 and No. 1 singles along with two matches at No. 1 doubles with UT rookie Pat Harper. Luca Wiedenmann achieved the same feat, claiming victories at No. 5 and No. 3 singles along with two No. 2 doubles victories with Adam Walton.
SERIES HISTORY: Tennessee is 14-11 against Duke all-time and most recently defeated the Blue Devils 4-1 in 2018. The two teams have met every year since 2011, and the series dates back to 1975.
SCOUTING DUKE: The Blue Devils are currently 3-4 overall, which includes a 4-1 loss against the SEC's Kentucky. Duke is coming off a narrow 4-3 loss to Northwestern on Feb. 3.
UP NEXT: Following the match against Duke, Tennessee will continue its road stretch with back-to-back away contests at NC State (Feb. 22) and Georgia Tech (Feb. 24). The Big Orange eventually returns to Knoxville for a home match on Feb. 27 against MTSU.
