KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee softball landed four players in Softball America's Top 100 Rankings, as announced by the publication on Thursday.
Senior infielder Aubrey Leach, junior outfielder Jenna Holcomb, junior pitcher Caylan Arnold and senior infielder Chelsea Seggern were all tabbed among the top 67 players in the country.Â
Leach, who came in at No. 5, led the NCAA in runs per game (1.31) and runs scored (80) and sat atop the SEC with a .441 batting average in 2018. The Texas native's 80 runs scored through 61 games set Tennessee's single-season mark. Leach was selected to the NFCA Division I All-American First Team, NFCA All-Region First Team and the All-SEC First Team for her efforts last season. Off the field, she was named an Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete and to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll. To cap her successful junior campaign, she was also a USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top-25 Finalist.
Holcomb was identified as the No. 22 player in the country after a 2018 season in which she set a career-high hit streak spanning 21 games from Feb. 10 to March 14. She ranked third overall on the team with a batting average of .386 in 158 at bats. The California native also tallied 37 runs and 61 hits. She started in 53 of her 60 games played and stole six bases throughout the season. Holcomb was tabbed NFCA All-Region Second Team and was named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Leading Tennessee's pitching staff last season, Arnold was ranked the No. 38 player in the nation. She enters her junior season with increased expectations after leading Tennessee in innings pitched (217.0) and ERA (2.19) in 2018. She also threw a career-high 227 strikeouts en route to 26 wins which ties for 10th place in program history for a single season. The Maryville native appeared in 52 games last season while making 33 starts. She also threw 12 complete games including one in the SEC Tournament against LSU, holding the Tigers scoreless. Arnold was named SEC Pitcher of the Week three times in 2018 and earned NFCA All-Region and SEC All-Tournament Team honors.
Seggern, a veteran player for the Lady Vols, rounded out the rankings for UT at No. 67. She started all 62 games played last season and collected 66 RBIs along the way. Seggern ranked fourth on the team in batting average (.330), having 191 at bats with 29 runs and 63 hits. She led the team in doubles with 17 and also had seven home runs. The Thrall, Texas, native was also tabbed to the NFCA All-Region Third Team after her performance in 2018. Academically, Seggern was named as an Easton/NFC Scholar-Athlete and was on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
