#7/8 Tennessee Downs the Cavaliers, 6-2, on Monday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Pitching helped lead No. 7/8 Tennessee to a 6-2 win over Virginia at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in the Lady Vols' first Monday game of the Tennessee Classic.Tennessee's Caylan Arnold and Matty Moss combined to allow just four hits, one earned run and threw ten strikeouts.
Arnold improved to 5-1 on the season while recording four strikeouts and giving up three hits in four innings pitched.
The first inning was full of action as both teams got on the board. Virginia senior Lacy Smith homered in the top of the frame to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead.
Tennessee answered in the bottom, taking a 3-1 advantage on three hits. Aubrey Leach started things off with a single to right field and consecutive walks drawn by Amanda Ayala and Chelsea Seggern loaded the bases for Ashley Morgan. The Douglasville, Ga., native brought Leach and Ayala home with a two-RBI single to right field. Haley Bearden's two-out single then drove Seggern home.
In the second frame, the Lady Vols loaded the bases quickly thanks to back-to-back singles and a walk. Freshman Ally Shipman's single to center allowed two more runs score, giving UT a 5-1 lead.
The Big Orange added their last run in the fourth inning as Tianna Batts scored on a wild pitch.
Moss came on to pitch in the fifth inning for UT with runners on second and third. She retired her three batters faced throwing a strikeout to end the frame.
Virginia scratched the last run of the contest across in the sixth, using a hit and two fielding errors by Tennessee to score and make it a 6-2 final.
TENNESSEE CLASSIC: The Lady Vols are now 52-6 all time in Tennessee Classic games, dating back to the program's inaugural season in 1996.
