The Lady Vols wasted no time putting runs on the board, driving in five runners in the opening frame. Morgan started things off with a two-RBI single to left field that brought in Chelsea Seggern and Amanda Ayala. Three batters later, Phillips launched a towering 3-run shot over the center field fence to make it 5-0.

Leach advanced to second after the throw and then went to third on a grounder before scoring on a wild pitch. Morgan scored her second run of the day while Phillips earned her fourth RBI on a bases-loaded walk.
Virginia (4-7) got on the board in the third inning after Hayley Busby hit a solo home run off the scoreboard in left field. However, UT responded with two runs of its own. Both Parsons and Leach drew walks to get on base before scoring on wild pitches by Lacy Smith. The Lady Vols then worked the count, drawing three straight walks to once again load the bases for Phillips. She put a solid swing on the ball but a diving grab by the third basemen ended the inning.
