February 19, 2019 | Softball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After finishing 3-2 at ESPN's St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational last weekend, Tennessee softball is ranked 7/8/9 in Week 2 of the regular season by all three major national polls (USA Today/NFCA Coaches' Poll, ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 and Softball America), as announced on Tuesday.
The Lady Vols are coming off a five-game weekend which saw them face opponents who all received votes or were ranked, including No. 1/2 Florida State. Tennessee sent 16 players to the plate and 12 recorded hits. UT was led by dominant performances from Chelsea Seggern, Amanda Ayala and Aubrey Leach as the starters batted over .400.
In the circle, all three of the Big Orange's pitchers collected wins and threw at least 10 strikeouts. Matty Moss led the staff as she appeared in four games and fanned 19 batters through 11.2 innings of work.
The Lady Vols will be back in action this weekend as they welcome Kansas, Virginia, Bradley, Louisville and Tennessee State to Sherri Parker Lee Stadium for the Tennessee Classic (2/22-24). All Tennessee games will feature a live radio broadcast on UTSports.com and the UT Gameday App. The games will also be available for viewing on SECN+/WatchESPN App.
Last season, Tennessee went 48-14 and reached its 15th consecutive NCAA regional and 10th overall Super Regional.
