Newport Beach, Calif. – The Lady Vols concluded the ITA Fall National Championships on Thursday.
"Unfortunately, we couldn't extend our tournament a little longer," assistant coach Jarryd Chaplin said. "These girls have put together a very encouraging Fall. The quality of doubles play was very high, Kaitlin and Tenika will do very well if they continue to play the way they did tonight."
In the doubles main draw, the pair of Kaitlin Staines and Tenika McGiffin fell to Wake Forest's Eliza Omirou and MC Meredith 7-6(5), 6-4.
"Both girls had opportunities in their singles today, unfortunately we couldn't get on the right end of the result," Chaplin said.
In the singles consolation draw, Staines fell to Auburn's Selin Ovunc in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4). Sophomore Rebeka Mertena fell to Wake Forest's Carolyn Campana in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
Thursday marked the end of the fall season for the Lady Vols. The Tennessee women's tennis program will open the spring season when they welcome North Alabama to the Goodfriend Tennis Center on January 12th.
