XC Central: NCAA South Region Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee cross country program continues postseason action this week as Florida State hosts the NCAA South Region Championships at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. The women's 6K will start Friday at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men's 10K at 9:30 a.m.
The regional meet features Division I teams from Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi, with the top two men's and women's programs earning automatic berths to the NCAA National Championships next week in Terre Haute, Indiana. Individual spots at the national meet are also up for grabs for the top-four individual finishers not selected as members of NCAA-qualifying teams.

WHO'S RACING: The Lady Vols will field nine runners for the regional championships, while the men's roster features seven competitors for the Big Orange.
Women's 6K - 8:30 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Lady Vols posted their highest conference finish in a decade at the 2019 SEC Cross Country Championships, placing fourth in the team standings with 170 points. Tennessee was guided by three runners in the top-30 for the first time since 2009, as Sydney Seymour, Katie Thronson and Megan Murray finished 20th, 25th and 30th respectively.
The Tennessee men finished ninth overall, headed by junior front-runner Alex Crigger's 22nd-place finish in 23:35.4.
2018 REGIONAL REWIND: Tennessee placed third and seventh on the men's and women's sides at last year's regional championships, as Zach Long and Megan Murray punched individual tickets to the NCAA Championships. Both team finishes marked the best results for UT since 2002 and 2009, respectively.
Long took second place with a time of 31:11.5 over the 10K course for UT's highest individual finish at a regional since 1998, while Murray was 10th with a 6K time of 20:56.8. Karl Thiessen also picked up All-Region honors as a freshman, crossing the line 16th in his first career 10K in 31:51.3.
UP NEXT: The NCAA Cross Country National Championships are set for Saturday, Nov. 23, hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute. The meet is set to begin at 11:15 a.m. ET at the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course.
