Harper and Wiedenmann Advance at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Two Vols advance to the second round in the Saint Francis Health Systems ITA Men's All-American Championships qualifying draw Monday at the Case Tennis Center.
Sophomore Pat Harper continued his strong play in Oklahoma, picking up his fifth victory in three days. The Brisbane, Australia native knocked off UCF's Bogdan Paval in comeback fashion, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
Senior Luca Wiedenmann played his first match at the ITA All-American Championships, defeating South Alabama's Clement Marzol, 7-6(5), 6-3. The Munich, Germany native did not play in the pre-qualifying round as he received an automatic bid into the qualifying draw.
Harper and Wiedenmann are two wins away from advancing into the main draw which begins on Wednesday.
Three other members of the Tennessee men's tennis team were in action Monday in the qualifying draw. Sophomore Martim Prata saw his nine-match winning streak come to an end, falling to Tyler Zink of Georgia, 6-7(2), 0-6. Junior transfer Mark Wallner fell to Ryan Goetz from Virginia, 3-6, 6-2, 3-6 and senior Scott Jones dropped his match, 4-6, 3-6, to Emile Hudd from Oklahoma State.
All three will play consolation matches.
Doubles play began on Monday with Harper and Wallner teaming for one Tennessee pairing and Andrew Rogers and Adam Walton joining to form the other pair. Harper/Wallner faced Enrique Paya and Max Verboven from Arkansas in their first match, defeating the Razorbacks, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.
The duo fell in their second match of the day, 6-3, 3-6, 5-10, to Southern California's Bradley Frye and Riley Smith. Rogers/Walton dropped their opening doubles match, 4-6, 6-4, 9-11, to Jannik Giesse and Francois Musitelli from Old Dominion.
Singles qualifying play continues on Tuesday with Harper and Wiedenmann looking for two wins to lock in their spots in the main draw.
