Vols Finish First Day of ITA All-American Championships with Seven Wins

TULSA, Okla. – Tennessee opened the pre-qualifying draw at the Saint Francis Health System Men's ITA All-American Championships Saturday, finishing with a 7-1 record at the Case Tennis Center.
Pat Harper, Martim Prata and Andrew Rogers went undefeated on Saturday and are two wins away from advancing into the qualifying round which begins on Oct. 7.
Harper opened Saturday with Oregon's Riki Oshima, beating the Duck in three sets. Harper took the opening set, 7-5, dropping the second, 4-6, before bouncing back in the final set to win, 6-3. He faced Memphis' Matt Story in his second match, winning in two sets, 6-0, 6-2.
Prata knocked off two SEC opponents in his opening round matches, beating Georgia's Alex Diaz in three, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. The Lisbon, Portugal native took down LSU's Joey Thomas in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, in his second match of the day.
Not to be out done, Rogers beat Wake Forest's Yuval Solomon, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, rallying for the opening round win after dropping the first set. In his second match of the day, the Brentwood, Tenn., native defeated NC State's Robert Turzak, once again rallying for the win, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0.
Graduate senior Giles Hussey went 1-1 on Saturday, winning his first match, 6-3, 6-2, over Tulsa's Daniel Siddall. He dropped his second match to Wake Forest's Eduardo Nava, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
Pre-qualifying action continues on Sunday with the round of 64.
