GOLF CENTRAL: Intercollegiate at the Grove

The Vols travels to College Grove, Tennessee to take part in the 14-team tournament
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee men's golf team plays in its first of two tournaments this week, traveling to College Grove, Tennessee to take part in the Intercollegiate at the Grove.
The field features 14 teams with the Vols entering as one of four teams from the state of Tennessee including Lipscomb, host Middle Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.
Tennessee ended September at the Inverness Intercollegiate where it placed second in the 15-team field. The Vols had a lead going into the final round and nearly defended their title. Tennessee topped all three SEC teams that were in the field in LSU, Auburn and Missouri.
For the second tournament of the season, Rhys Nevin and Spencer Cross led the Vols on the leaderboard as both players tied for 11th, individually. This marks the second consecutive top-25 finish for the duo and the second top-15 finish for Nevin after tying for fourth at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
After two competitions, the Cheshire, England native leads the team with a 71.83 scoring average while also having a team-best three rounds of par or better and two rounds in the 60s.
Redshirt junior Chip Thomas joined them inside of the top 20 placing 17th at the Inverness Intercollegiate. So far this season, Thomas has counted for the team score in all six rounds of competition.
Tomorrow's first round is scheduled for a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. (ET) as Tennessee tees off between No. 6 and No. 9 at the The Grove Club. The Vols will be paired with host Middle Tennessee, Lipscomb and South Alabama on the opening day of play.
The Vols' Lineup
Rhys Nevin
Nevin tops the Tennessee lineup for the third time this season. He has been the top player on the leaderboard in both tournaments this season and has counted in all six rounds of action. He holds a team-best 71.83 scoring average heading into Sunday's opening round.
Spencer Cross
After tying for 11th individually at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Cross now has two top-25 finishes in as many starts this season. He completed the event with two rounds of par or better, turning in a second round 69 (-2) and a final round 71 (E).
Chip Thomas
After tying for 59th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate to open the season, Thomas responded with his first top-25 finish as a Volunteer. He tied for 17th with a second round score of 71 (E) and a third round 72 (+1).
Hunter Wolcott
The Burns, Tennessee native returns to the Nashville area and is coming off a tied for 40th finish at the Inverness Intercollegiate. Last season, he was earned All-SEC honors and was named to the PING All-Southeast Region team.
Brayden Garrison
Garrison nearly recorded his first top-25 finish of the year after tying for 27th at the Inverness Intercollegiate. He bookended the week with two rounds of 72 (+1).
Vols' Individual
Jake Hall
The redshirt freshman is scheduled to play in his third tournament as an individual this season. Hall has played in both the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate and JT Poston Invitational, tying for 34th and 42nd, respectively.
Tyler Johnson
Johnson is set to play in his second tournament of the season after playing in the JT Poston Invitational. He tied for 34th, turning in two rounds of par better and finishing the tournament with a three-round score of 211 (-2).
Bryce Lewis
The redshirt freshman is set to play in his third tournament as an individual. Lewis is coming off the JT Poston Invitational where he was under par in all three rounds including a final round 67 (-4) and tied for 13th.
Chase Roswall
Roswall sees his second tournament action of the season after playing with three other individuals in the Jim River Intercollegiate earlier this month. He tied for 34th after carding a final round 71.
Sean Wilcox
The redshirt junior plays in his third tournament of the season as an individual. He is coming off the Inverness Intercollegiate where he tied for 35th on the leaderboard.
