KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee cross country program begins postseason action this week at the SEC Cross Country Championships, set for Friday morning at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky. The conference meet will open up with the men's 8K at 9 a.m., followed by the women's 6K at 10 a.m.
FOLLOW LIVE: The SEC Network will televise the conference championships, with an online version of the broadcast available at this link. Live results will be provided by Prime Time Timing.
WHO'S RACING: The men's team will field 10 runners at the meet while the women's roster will feature nine competitors for the Big Orange.
Men's 8K - 9:00 a.m.
STORYLINES: The Lady Vols enter the SEC Championships with two meet titles and top-five finishes at every competition this fall. The group has seen a balanced attack with three different runners as their top finisher in senior captain Megan Murray and sophomores Katie Thronson and Sydney Seymour. Abigail Smith and Alyssa Wolf have traded places as UT's fourth and fifth Lady Vols across the finish line all season long.
On the men's side, junior Alex Crigger has paced the group over the past couple of meets at the 8K distance with times of 24:14.6 and 24:07.3. He has been followed closely by sophomore Karl Thiessen who is coming off an Freshman All-SEC nod a year ago. John Elrod, Conner Hawkins, Devin Sullivan and Max Barbour have also scored for Tennessee in the past few weeks on 8,000-meter courses.
LAST TIME AT SEC'S: The Vols and Lady Vols each posted notable team finishes at the 2018 SEC championships, placing fourth and seventh respectively for their best results at the conference meet since 2010 and 2011. Thronson and Thiessen each claimed Freshman All-SEC honors while Thronson was also recognized as a Second Team All-SEC performer.
UP NEXT: Two weeks after the conference meet, the Tennessee cross country teams will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. for the NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships. The meet will be hosted by Florida State and is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 15 at the Apalachee Regional Park.
