Lady Vols Finish Fifth at White Sands Invitational

Tennessee moves up five spots on the final day with the help of the second lowest round of the season
NASSAU, Bahamas – The Tennessee women's golf team was the largest mover in the field in the final round of the White Sands Invitational on Wednesday.
With the help of the third-lowest score on the course, the Lady Vols moved up five spots on the team leaderboard to place fifth. Their final round score of 279 (-9) tied the sixth lowest score in school history and is the second lowest score of the season.
Tennessee had four players shoot under par on Tuesday including freshman Nicole Whiston and senior Micheala Williams.
Whiston, who was the highest Lady Vol finisher in every event this fall, carded a final round of 68 (-4), which was the third lowest score in the 82-player field.
Her third-round score helped her post a 54-hole score of 216 (E) as she moved up 20 spots to tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard. In all five events this fall, she has finished par or better and she has placed inside of the top 20 in every event.
Williams grabbed her second consecutive top-25 finish with the help of a final round 69 (-3). She moved up 23 spots on the individual leaderboard to tie for 21st at 2-over-par for the tournament.
Sophomore Mikayla Bardwell and junior Mariah Smith both carded rounds of 70 (-1) on Tuesday to help lift Tennessee to its third top-five finish of the fall season.
In the process of moving up the leaderboard, the Lady Vols passed No. 21 Mississippi State, No. 27 Baylor, No. 31 Clemson and No. 34 Georgia. They also were just one stroke back of No. 24 Houston.

Next Up: With the Lady Vols wrapping up the fall slate of tournaments, they will be back on the course to start the spring season in February. Tennessee travels to Guadalajara, Mexico for the Guadalajara International Invitational with play starting on Feb. 17 and running through Feb. 18.
