Lady Vols in 12th After First Round at IJGA Collegiate Invitational
February 16, 2020 | Women's Golf
GUADALAJARA, Mexico – After the opening round of the IJGA Collegiate Invitational, the University of Tennessee women's golf team is 12th overall after recording a 297 (+9) total score in the first spring tournament of the season.
"We had a bit of an up-and-down round today," head coach Judi Pavon said. "We didn't start very well, probably due to the nerves from not competing for a while. Then we settled down during the middle of the day and didn't finish well. We made some mistakes that we can prevent tomorrow."
Sophomore Hadley Walts led the squad by tying her season-low round at 72 (E) strokes and tied for 18th in the field. The sophomore recorded six birdies on the day, four of those coming from the back nine holes.
"Hadley had it going today, which was so exciting," Pavon said. "Even par is a good round from her, but she made a couple mistakes at the end, so she is not happy about that."
Right behind Walts were three Lady Vols tied for 39th, including sophomore Mikayla Bardwell, sophomore Malia Stovall and senior Micheala Williams. The trio recorded 75 (+3) strokes on the day.
Rounding out competition was freshman Nicole Whiston, tying for 61st overall and carding a 78 (+6) round.
The Lady Vols continue competition tomorrow with the second round beginning at 9:15 a.m. ET. After the conclusion of the round, UT begins the first nine holes of the third at approximately 2:15 p.m.
