The White Sands Invitational marks the seventh time in program history the Lady Vols have played outside of the mainland United States
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women's golf team closes out the fall slate of tournaments in Nassau, Bahamas at the White Sands Invitational.
The event, hosted by Houston, features 15 teams with the Lady Vols as one of 11 top-50 teams in the field according to the latest GolfStat rankings. They will be one of five SEC teams in the field as Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia and Mississippi State join them in the Bahamas.
This marks the second consecutive season Tennessee has played outside of the mainland United States after playing in the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational during the 2018-19 spring season. This will be the seventh time overall, the Lady Vols have traveled outside of the mainland United States for a tournament.
It is the first of two such tournaments this season as Tennessee will tee off its spring season at the Guadalajara International Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Lady Vols are coming off a fourth place finish at the Magnolia Invitational earlier this month where they shot a final round 6-under-par. The team had four top-25 finishers with freshman Nicole Whiston and senior Micheala Williams placing inside of the top 10 on the leaderboard.
In the final round, Williams carded a season-low 68 (-4) to claim her first top-10 finish of the season. Whiston joins Williams at the top of the lineup this week as she is coming off her third consecutive top-10 finish.
The freshman has been Tennessee's top finisher at every event this season and has been the highest Lady Vol on the leaderboard after all 12 rounds this season.
She enters the final event of the fall with a team-best 70.67, which would break an eight-year old school record set by Erica Popson in 2010-11 (72.19 stroke average).
The first round is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. (ET) at the Ocean Club with the Lady Vols set to tee off between holes No. 7 and 10 in the shotgun start. Tennessee will be paired with Georgia and Oklahoma.
