Wiedenmann Advances into ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships Quarterfinal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men's tennis senior Luca Wiedenmann won twice Saturday, advancing into the quarterfinal round at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships at Vanderbilt's Currey Tennis Center.
Wiedenmann opened the day against Vandy's Panu Virtanen, defeating the Commodore 7-6 (4), 6-3. The Munich, Germany native followed up with a victory over another Vanderbilt player, George Harwell 6-2, 5-7, 5-5. Harwell retired in the third set.
He will face No. 1 seed Athell Bennett from Purdue in tomorrow's quarterfinal.
The rest of the day was tougher for the Vols as senior Scott Jones fell in his singles match to Jeremy Taylor of Memphis 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (5).
Junior Andrew Rogers dropped his singles bout 3-6, 3-6 to Bennett Crane from Indiana while true freshman Finn Stodder saw his run at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships come to an end Saturday, falling in two sets 5-7, 2-6 against Frazier Rengifo of ETSU.
In doubles, Jones and Wiedenmann fell to Lipscomb's Pablo Caffarena and Victor Chaw 4-8, seeing their run end in the quarterfinals.
