Vols Unbeaten in Singles After Opening Day of ITA Ohio Valley Regionals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – All four members of Tennessee's men's tennis team won their singles matches Thursday, opening the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships with six wins following UT's two doubles victories.
Seniors Scott Jones and Luca Wiedenmann got their day started well, advancing to the round of 16 in doubles. The duo defeated Purdue's Tomasz Dudek and Maksymilian Raupuk, 8-2, in the round of 64 before beating Butler's Michael Dickson and Ryan Roegner, 8-6, in the round of 32.
The Vols' second doubles team of Andrew Rogers and Finn Stodder fell in their opening round match, 5-8, to Kentucky's Gabriel Diallo and Alexandre Leblanc.
Wiedenmann continued his strong play in singles where he met Wright State's Javier Alvarez de la Villa. The Munich, Germany native won the match in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Continuing Tennessee's strong play was Rogers who knocked off David Stevenson from Memphis in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
Jones followed with a singles win of his own, defeating Dayton's Will Harper in two sets, 6-2, 6-1.
The true freshman, Stodder, closed out the Vols' opening day in Nashville with a two-set win over Chattanooga's Tomas Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-4.
The ITA Ohio Valley Regional continues tomorrow from Vanderbilt's Currey Tennis Center and Centennial Sportsplex with the second round of singles and the round of 16 in doubles. Play begins at 9 a.m. ET.
