Lady Vols Prepped for ITA Ohio Valley Regionals
October 16, 2019 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis team is slated to compete in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional beginning on October 17th.
Â
"This is my fourth fall at Tennessee as a coach, without a doubt this is the most prepared we have been as a team going into an ITA regional event," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "I am a huge believer that with preparation, you are going to be more confident in achieving your desired result. In addition to that, it can be tough to battle that belief as to whether or not you are ready to do something that you have never done before."
Â
Making the trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn. will be Julie Ball, Callie Creath, Kylie Duckworth, Tenika McGiffin, Rebeka Mertena, Ariadna Riley, and Kaitlin Staines.
Â
Duckworth will be the lone Lady Vol competing on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.Â
Â
"With Kaitlin Staines and Tenika McGiffin and their recent success at the All-Americans Tournament and getting into the finals, that is huge," Ojeda said. "Now we need the whole team to know that if they can do that, then we can do that. I think that gives them some added belief going into this week as well."
Â
Last time out, the Lady Vols competed in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The doubles pair of Staines and McGiffin went 4-1 in the championships, defeating three top-25 pairs en route to a second-place finish.Â
Â
Thursday's Schedule
2 p.m. Callie Creath vs. Margita Sunjic (N Kentucky)
2:30 p.m. Kylie Duckworth vs. Kseniya Zonova (SEMO)
