Vols Drop Road Match at Mizzou, 2-0
October 13, 2019 | Soccer
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri scored twice in the final 10 minutes to put the match away, as Tennessee fell 2-0 on the road Sunday afternoon at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
Â
Tiger forward Julissa Cisneros found the game-winner in the 82nd minute to break up a scoreless tie, connecting off a pass from senior Sarah Luebbert. It was Luebbert who gave Mizzou some insurance four minutes later, scoring with a shot off the back post to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Â
Playing all 90 minutes between the posts, redshirt-sophomore keeper Charli Pogany hauled in a career-high six saves on the day for Tennessee (8-5-1, 2-4 SEC) before the Tigers broke through with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
Â
Tennessee recorded six shot attempts in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net. Half of those attempts came from sophomore forward Mackenzie George who logged UT's lone shot on frame in the 84th minute. MA Vignola, Michelle Alozie and Tara Katz all fired shots high of the crossbar in the second frame.
Â
For the match, Missouri (7-6-1, 1-4-1 SEC) tallied a 14-6 lead in shots with an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at five apiece while the Vols committed six fouls compared to four for the Tigers.
Â
Neither side scored through the first 45 minutes of action, as Tennessee was held without a shot for the first time in a half this season. Corner kicks and fouls were deadlocked at three and four, respectively, during the opening frame, while Mizzou recorded a 2-0 edge in shot attempts with one on frame.
Â
UP NEXT: Tennessee's conference road swing continues Friday, Oct. 18 with a visit to league-leading South Carolina. Kickoff between the Vols and Gamecocks is set for 7 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.
