Lady Vols Grab Pair of Wins Over North Alabama To Open Spring Season

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis team notched a pair of 7-0 victories over North Alabama Monday inside Goodfriend Tennis Center to start the spring season.
The Lady Vols (2-0) took all six doubles matches over the course of the doubleheader while also winning all 12 singles matches. The two teams also played a fourth doubles match during both legs of the doubleheader, of which Tennessee won both.
Freshmen Rebeka Mertena and Maia Haumuller each made their Tennessee debuts.
During the first match, Haumuller defeated North Alabama's Megan Humphreys in singles on Court 5, 6-0, 6-1, and then defeated Nele Seitz in the second match, 6-4, 6-2.
Mertena defeated Payton Andrews in singles in the first match, 6-3, 6-4, and then took down Sydney Flesch in the second match, 6-3, 7-5.
The duo also partnered up in doubles, recording a pair of 6-1 wins.
STREAKS STAY ALIVE: Johanna Silva and Sadie Hammond extended notable singles winning streaks during Monday's doubleheader against North Alabama.
With two singles victories, Silva extended her winning streak to 10 matches, dating back to Oct. 13. Hammond won her sixth singles match in a row, a winning streak that also dates back to Oct. 13.
UP NEXT: The Lady Vols travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. this weekend for the Michigan Invite against Ohio State, Georgia Tech and host school Michigan. The event starts on Saturday and will run through Monday.
Tennessee will play a round of singles and doubles against each school over the course of the weekend.
