Vols Keep Up Winning Ways in Milwaukee, Columbia

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee men's tennis program posted a 10-2 record overall across two tournaments Friday, with players competing at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and the Gamecock Fall Invitational.
MILWAUKEE CLASSIC
Tennessee junior Luca Wiedenmann picked up a pair of singles victories in Milwaukee, advancing to the quarterfinals to highlight UT's performances at The Town Club Friday evening.
Wiedenmann (Munich, Germany) earned his fourth singles victory of the 2018-19 campaign in three sets over Omaha's Razvan Grigorescu, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, before topping Robert Turzak (NC State) 6-0, 6-2 to improve his record to 5-2 on the season.
Pat Harper, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia, defeated No. 2 seed Paul Barretto (California) in a three-set battle, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 to move on to the round of 16 of the Milwaukee singles bracket. The UT rookie next took on Virginia Tech's Henrik Koorsgaard, but the match was suspended in the second set due to darkness. Harper currently leads the match, 7-5, 3-3.
UT's Preston Touliatos and Andrew Rogers each fell in the round of 32 and will compete in the consolation singles bracket Saturday.
GAMECOCK FALL INVITATIONAL
The Vols went 7-0 Friday afternoon to open up the Gamecock Fall Invitational in Columbia, S.C., collecting one doubles victory and six singles wins.
The event began with doubles play, as the Australian Tennessee duo of Adam Walton/Scott Jones took care of South Carolina's Lambling/Brown 8-2 in the opening round.
Walton – the tournament's top-seeded individual – cruised through the first two rounds of Flight A singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jason Lapidus (Duke) and a 7-6(4), 6-0 triumph over Diego Quiroz (Winthrop). The UT sophomore from Home Hill, Australia was recently selected 82nd in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason singles rankings.
Jones also advanced to the Flight A singles quarterfinals with a couple of straight-set wins at South Carolina. A junior from Perth, Australia, Jones topped SMU's Jan-Simon Vrbsky 6-2, 7-6(4) before defeating Brian Cernoch (North Carolina) 6-4, 6-3.
Tennessee freshman Sean Presson (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounded out UT's perfect day with two singles victories in Flight C. Presson dispatched Elias Svensson (Presbyterian) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 before grinding out a tight three-set win over Georgia Southern's Carlos Garcia, 6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-3.
