July 31, 2018 | Soccer
OTTAWA, Ontario – Former Tennessee soccer standout Rhian Wilkinson (2000-03) has been selected as the head coach for Canada Soccer's Under-15 squad competing in the upcoming CONCACAF U-15 Championships. The week-long tournament is set for Aug. 6-13 at the IMG Center in Bradenton, Fla.
A native of Baie d'Urfe, Quebec, Canada, Wilkinson has been transitioning from a player to a coach in the Canadian program since 2014. As a member of the national team, she captured a CONCACAF title (2010), two Olympic bronze medals (2012, 16) and a fourth-place finish at the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Wilkinson was inducted into the Tennessee Lady Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2013. A three-time All-SEC performer, she still holds all-time program records for assists in a single season (15) and a career (32). Her 88 career points (28 goals, 32 assists) rank second in UT history, while her 28 career goals are the third-most by a Lady Vol.
Tennessee teams progressed with each season during Wilkinson's collegiate career. Her performances enabled the Lady Vols to card SEC Eastern Division runner-up finishes in 2000 and 2001 before elevating the program to SEC Eastern Division and SEC Tournament champions in 2002 and the trifecta of division, regular season and tournament champs in 2003.
Wilkinson and the U-15 Canada squad will begin CONCACAF group play on Tuesday, Aug. 7. For more information on the team, follow this link.
