SUMMER UPDATE: 20 Vols Set to Begin Summer League Play

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee baseball is well-represented on the summer circuit this year with 20 players set to participate in a handful of different leagues throughout the next couple of months.

Five Vols are slated to play in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, which is widely considered the top amateur baseball league in the country. Sophomores Andre Lipcius, Justin Ammons and Garrett Stallings will play for the Harwich Mariners while fellow sophomores Zach Linginfelter and Andrew Schultz will suit up for the Brewster Whitecaps.

UT will also have four players represented in the California Collegiate League, three in the Coastal Plains League, three in the Northwoods League, two in the Smokey Mountain Collegiate League and one each in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, the Valley Baseball League and the Prospect Baseball League.

RHP Sean Hunley – Forest City Owls
Season Stats: 1 App, 1 GS, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K

Hunley picked up where he left off at the end of UT's season, tossing a gem in his Coastal Plains League debut on June 1 in a 10-1 win over Martinsville. The right hander allowed just one hit in five shutout innings and struck out eight batters to pick up the win.

LHP Redmond Walsh – Forest City Owls
Season Stats: 1 App, 0-0, 1 SV, 2.25 ERA, 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Walsh picked up a save in his debut for the Owls as they defeated Martinsville 10-1. The Louisville, Tenn., native tossed the final four innings after fellow UT teammate Sean Hunley got the start and threw five shutout innings. Walsh allowed one run on three hits and struck out three to earn his first save of the summer.

RHP Joshua Plummer – Florence RedWolves
Season Stats: 1 App, 0-0, 3.00 ERA, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Plummer threw three innings of relief in his Coastal Plains League debut. The Virginia native allowed one run on one hit and had three strikeouts in his first appearance for the RedWolves.

Northwoods League
OF Evan Russell – Thunder Bay Border Cats
Season Stats: 5 GP, .150 AVG, 1 R, 3 H, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 SB

After going hitless in his first two games, Russell has begun to pick up steam with a hit in each of his last three games. The Lexington, Tenn., native drove in a run with an RBI double in a 5-2 win over Mankato on June 2.

OF Zach Daniels – Kalamazoo Growlers
Season Stats: 7 GP, .182 AVG, 2 R, 4 H, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 7 BB, 8 K, 1 SB

Daniels has recorded a hit in four of the seven games he's played and currently leads the team with seven RBI. The Georgia native hit a grand slam in Kalamazoo's 9-4 win over Battle Creek on May 31.

INF Wyatt Stapp – Champion City Kings

Stapp had a hit and scored two runs in his summer league debut to help lead the Kings to an 8-3 win over the Butler BlueSox on June 1. The Keller, Texas native drove in his first run of the summer and reached base three times in a 9-7 loss to the West Virginia Miners on June 4.
