KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- For the 15th consecutive year, Tennessee softball earned a ranking in the final national polls, as the Lady Vols came in at No. 10 in the both the USA Today/NFCA Coaches' Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 for the 2018 season.Â
After compiling a 48-14 record that saw UT advance to its sixth Super Regional in the past seven seasons, the program has now finished among the top-20 in both national polls in each year since 2004.Â
Florida State earned the unanimous No. 1 ranking in both polls after sweeping Washington at the Women's College World Series to win its first national championship in program history. For the second straight season, the SEC led all conferences in the final rankings, landing 10 teams in the USA Softball Poll and 11 in the NFCA Coaches' Poll.
Tennessee faced four of the eight teams who advanced to Oklahoma City, picking up wins against three -- Arizona State, Oregon and Georgia. The Lady Vols held the No. 10 national ranking entering the NCAA Tournament, where they went 3-0 to win the 10th Regional in program history.Â
Junior Aubrey Leach and senior Meghan Gregg led Lady Vols throughout the season en route to earning All-America honors. Leach, who set the Tennessee single-season record with 80 runs scored, also paced the SEC with a .441 batting average. Gregg, meanwhile, ranked second in the nation with 72 RBIs and led the team with 18 home runs. She broke the program record in both categories during the season, amassing 57 home runs and 263 RBIs for her career.
