KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 8/12 Tennessee got back on the winning track on Tuesday night, beating Tennessee State 3-0 at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

It took four innings for the Lady Vols (32-6) to get things going offensively, as the Tigers (3-32) held them without a hit through the opening three frames. Caylan Arnold kept UT in contention with timely pitching and improved to 14-3 on the season with the win. The sophomore recorded seven strikeouts for the game, including the 300th of her career at Tennessee.

UT broke the scoreless tie in the fourth. Aubrey Leach led off the inning with a walk and then stole second before Jenna Holcomb laid down a bunt and beat out the throw to put a pair of runners on base with zero outs. Chelsea Seggern then drove a high fly ball to center field which allowed Leach to tag up from third as the Lady Vols grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Tennessee would add two more runs in the fifth inning to gain some breathing room. Pinch hitter Sheridan Allen got a rally started with a one-out single up the middle and proceeded to steal second base. The following batter Tianna Batts hit a base-knock of her own which sent Allen to third, and a throwing error brought her home to make it 2-0. A CJ McClain line-drive double put Batts at third, and Batts was able to score UT's third run on a Holcomb groundout to second.

The combination of Arnold, Ashley Morgan and Matty Moss combined for 10 strikeouts in the circle. Lauren Powell was handed the loss for Tennessee State, as she went 4.1 innings and gave up four hits.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols depart for a SEC road series at No. 11/13 Auburn this weekend. Game 1 will take place on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
