Lady Vols Lose in Second Round of SEC Tournament to Ole Miss, 4-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The 12th-seeded Tennessee women's tennis team came up short versus five-seed Ole Miss, 4-2, in the second round of the SEC Tournament Thursday night in Barksdale Stadium.
The No. 35 Lady Vols (18-11) struck first in doubles play when the number two pair of Sadie Hammond and Gabby Schuck defeated Sabina Machalova and Tea Jandric, 6-3. Ole Miss answered with wins on the other two courts to secure the doubles point and a key 1-0 lead.
Singles play went back and forth. Ole Miss won first in singles on Court 2 to lengthen its lead to 2-0. Schuck followed that up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on Court 5 over Alexa Bortles to give Tennessee its first point of the night. The Rebels extended their lead to 3-1 after taking Court 3. A 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory on Court 4 by Kaitlin Staines versus Anna Vrbenska helped the Lady Vols stay in the contest, but they could not hang on as Ole Miss clinched the match on Court 6.
