Hot hitting Leads Lady Vols Past Hawai’i, 10-5

HONOLULU – The Tennessee softball team used some timely hitting on their way to a 10-5 win over host Hawai'i on Thursday evening in the Bank of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Classic at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The No. 4 Lady Vols (28-1) scored three runs in the top of the first. Aubrey Leach took the second pitch 205 yard over the wall in right center. UT would add another run on a Brooke Vines single up the middle that scored Jenna Holcomb. Two batters later, Ashley Morgan drew the walk to score Meghan Gregg.
The Big Orange plated one run in the top of the second when Chelsea Seggern singled to left center to score Holcomb.
Hawai'i (14-12) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when Katelyn Mahelona scored on single by Heather Cameron.
The Rainbow Wahine added one run in the bottom of the third. Rachael Turner hit a single up the middle that scored Britnee Rossi.
Tennessee added one more run in the top of the fourth. Seggern doubled down the left-field line to score Sheridan Allen.
Hawai'i scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Callee Heen hit a 2-run home run over the center-field wall to score Jordon Hicks.
UT plated five runs in the top of the sixth. Gregg hit a three-run home run over the wall in left center to score Leach and Holcomb. Five batters later, Scarlet McSwain came in to pinch hit and hits a double down the left-field line that scored Amanda Ayala. Abby Lockman, then scored on a single up the middle by Haley Bearden to push the Lady Vols lead to 10-4.
The 'Bows added one final run in the bottom of the seventh. Chardonn Pantastico grounded out to the second baseman and scored Nicole Lopez.
Gabby Sprang (4-0) picked up the win, going four innings in relief with a strikeout and allowing just two hits. Matty Moss tossed three innings.
Up next: Tennessee face Maryland later today at 6 p.m. ET.
