Shaw, Cousins Garner All-America Honors
November 29, 2018 | Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo -- Tennessee standouts Bunny Shaw and Katie Cousins were both recognized as NCAA Division I Women's Soccer All-Americans, as released by the United Soccer Coaches Thursday night.
Â
Shaw garnered Second Team All-America accolades, while Cousins repeated as a Third Team honoree. The Vols are one of eight teams in the country to have multiple All-America selections in 2018, and this marks the first time Tennessee has had multiple All-Americans in a single season since 2007.
Â
Shaw (Spanish Town, Jamaica) paced the Vols' attack with a team-high 13 goals, six assists and 32 points in her senior season, earning SEC Offensive Player of the Year honors in the process. The forward finished her UT career as the program's all-time career leader in goals per game (0.77) and points per game (1.86). She also set a Tennessee record for most consecutive games with a goal, scoring in eight-straight contests from Sept. 20 - Nov. 9, 2018.
Â
Splitting duties with Tennessee and the Jamaican National Team, Shaw helped her country qualify for its first-ever Women's World Cup last month with a third-place finish at the CONCACAF Championships. The striker connected on 19 goals across 13 matches for the Reggae Girlz in World Cup qualifiers.
Â
Cousins (Forest, Va.) was named Third Team All-America for the second year in a row, becoming the third player in Tennessee history to earn multiple All-America honors in her collegiate career. The redshirt junior played and started in 21 games for UT and was a key leader as the Vols made their historic run to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Â
Cousins posted career-best numbers with three goals, four assists and 10 points in 2018. As a holding midfielder, she served on the front line of a defensive unit that set program records for the most shutouts (12) and fewest goals allowed (15) in a single season.
Â
Shaw adds her name to a list of seven Tennessee soccer All-Americans, joining Cousins, Hannah Wilkinson (2012), Kylee Rossi (2007), Jaimel Johnson (2007), Ali Christoph (2005-06) and Keeley Dowling (2002-04).
