LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee (15-2-3) stunned Arizona 3-2 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, as senior forward Danielle Marcano netted the match-winner with 55 seconds remaining the second half. It was Marcano's seventh goal and fourth game-winner of the season.
Â
Marcano recorded her third brace of the season Friday, also tallying in the 46th minute to put the Vols ahead 2-0. Junior forward Salera Jordan found the opener in the 35th minute off an assist from senior midfielder Meghan Flynn.
Â
HOW SWEET IT IS:Â Sunday's match will mark UT's first appearance in the NCAA Round of 16 since 2007. The Vols have advanced to the Sweet 16 five times overall prior to this season, with a 0-5 record in those contests.
Â
MARCANO MAKES HISTORY: With two goals Friday night against Arizona, Danielle Marcano became Tennessee's all-time leading goal scorer in the NCAA Tournament with five in her career. Last year, the Buford, Ga. native scored a goal against Murray State in the first round to go along with two scores versus Washington State in the round of 32.
Â
FLYNN SETS UP TWO SCORES: Senior midfielder Meghan Flynn logged two assists in UT's win over Arizona, tying an all-time record for Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament. Flynn's volley on the counter-attack set up Salera Jordan in the 35th minute, before a throw-in led to Danielle Marcano's first tally of the match that gave the Vols a 2-0 edge early in the second half.
Â
SCOUTING THE AGGIES: Texas A&M (17-4-1) defeated TCU 2-0 Friday afternoon in Knoxville to advance to the Sweet 16 for the 15th time in program history. The Aggie roster includes the SEC's leading goal scorer in Ally Watt, whose 15th goal of the season went down as the game-winner over TCU on Friday.
Â
Texas A&M leads the SEC with 47 goals in 2018 and tops the league with 19.48 shots per game. Four Aggies garnered All-SEC honors, headlined by Watt who received First Team accolades. Sophomore midfielder Addie McCain and senior defender Kendall Ritchie earned spots on the All-SEC Second Team, while rookie forward Ásdís Halldórsdóttir was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
SERIES HISTORY:Â Tennessee holds a 5-1-0 advantage over Texas A&M all-time, most recently routing the 5th-ranked Aggies 4-0 in College Station earlier this season. UT's four goals each came within a span of six minutes late in the second half as the Vols handed the Aggies their largest home loss in program history.
Â
UP NEXT:Â The winner of Sunday's match will move on to the NCAA Quarterfinals on Nov. 23 or 24, with date, time and location to be determined by the highest remaining seed in the Palo Alto quadrant.
