Vols Advance to Singles, Doubles Final at ITA Ohio Valley Regional

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee senior Timo Stodder will make his second-straight appearance in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional singles final after picking up a pair of wins Sunday afternoon at Goodfriend Tennis Center. He will also compete in the doubles final alongside fellow co-captain Preston Touliatos.
The second-seeded UT duo opened the day with their fifth-straight win, cruising past Butler's Dickson/Mag by a score of 6-1, 7-5 in the semifinals. Stodder/Touliatos will face ninth-seed Inno/Illics (Belmont) in Monday's final, scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start at Goodfriend.
Stodder (Berlin, Germany), the tournament's top-seeded individual, posted a couple of straight-set victories over Indiana Hoosiers to earn his second consecutive berth to the ITA Regional singles final. The Tennessee co-captain dispatched Zac Brodney 6-2, 6-0 before taking care of third-seeded Antonio Cembellin 6-1, 6-4.
With his victory over Cembellin, Stodder automatically qualifies for the ITA Fall National Championships next month in Surprise, Ariz. It was also the first ranked win of the season for Stodder, as Cembellin was slotted No. 66 in the ITA's preseason singles rankings.
Stodder is set to face Gonzalo Morell of Middle Tennessee State in Monday's singles final at approximately 11:30 a.m. The unranked Blue Raider picked up perhaps the biggest upset of the tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the seventh-ranked player in the nation, Cameron Klinger (Vanderbilt).
