AUSTIN, Texas — The Tennessee men's tennis team lost to eighth-ranked Texas 4-1 to conclude the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Sunday at Texas Tennis Center.
The Vols (7-2) dropped the doubles point and then four of six first sets as Texas (4-1) collected the three singles points needed to clinch victory.
Junior Timo Stodder picked up his second top-40 singles win of the weekend, defeating No. 37 Leonardo Telles 6-3, 6-2. Stodder, ranked No. 36 to start the spring, is now a team-leading 20-5 overall this season with seven wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
Texas picked up the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 3. In singles, Yuya Ita defeated Luis Valero 6-1, 6-2 on court 3, No. 98 Radrigo Banzer beat Adam Walton 6-2, 6-2 on court 4 and Adrian Ortiz won over Luca Wiedenmann 6-3, 6-3.
