TENNESSEE SOFTBALL NAMES BROWN NEW DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
August 24, 2017 | Softball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee softball co-head coaches Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly have announced the addition of Melissa Brown to their staff for the 2017-18 season.
Brown, a former standout for the Volunteers (2010-13), will take over as the Director of Softball Operations after spending last season as a volunteer assistant coach at LSU. Her job duties will include the coordination, planning and execution of the program's day-to-day activities, as well as coordinating team travel plans and meals and supervising the team's managers.
"Ralph and I are thrilled to welcome Melissa back to Tennessee softball. She embodies all of the core values important in our program," Karen Weekly said. "Her work ethic, organizational skills and attention to detail make her the perfect fit for this position."
During Brown's time with the Tigers, the program made an appearance in the Women's College World Series this past season. With her as a volunteer assistant coach in 2017, the Tigers made an amazing run to the Women's College World Series by going on the road for a Super Regional in Tallahassee, Fla., where they defeated then-No. 4 Florida State to advance to their third straight WCWS.
Prior to her time at LSU, Brown completed her Master's degree in Sports Psychology and Motor Behavior at Tennessee while serving as a manager under the Weekly's for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
As a player, Brown helped Tennessee reach the Women's College World Series three times (2010, 2012 and 2013) and the NCAA Tournament four times. The Valencia, Calif., native started 154 games over her four seasons, while recording 126 hits and scoring 107 runs.
Brown, was also a great student in the classroom while at Tennessee, having received the 2013 Howard Aldmon Community Service Award, 2013 SEC Community Service Team, 2012 First-Team Capital One Academic All-District 3, 2010 & 2013 NFCA Scholar-Athlete Team, 2011, 2012 & 2013 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll and 2010 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
Brown will take over for Ashley Andrews, who was the Vols' Director of Operations last season.
"We appreciate everything Ashley did for our program this past year," Ralph and Karen Weekly said. "Her passion for teaching and coaching is very evident and the students she will mentor in the future will benefit greatly from working with her."
